To qualify for the “Token Engineering The Superchain” round, grants must:

1. Advance Token Engineering: Projects must advance token engineering within one of the following categories: tooling, research, education, social infrastructure, consulting.
2. Contribute to the Superchain: Projects must contribute to the growth and development of Optimism or the broader Superchain ecosystem. Applications must include the following elements:
   • Description of the long-term vision for impact
   • Specification of short-term goals and milestones within the scope of the grant
   • Agreement to participate in TEC's impact evaluation process leading to the Retroactive funding round in November (detailed below in “Impact Assessment Plan”)
3. Project Credibility:
   • Summary of project’s existing work with relevant links
   • Verified Github and/or Twitter account
   • Brief bios of the project’s team members
4. Returning Grantees:
   • Updates on the work accomplished since their last grant
   • Self-assessment of the effectiveness of their use of that funding

In 2025, the widespread adoption of token engineering was significantly accelerated by comprehensive education and mentorship programs. These initiatives included creating content, organizing events and seminars, and publishing papers to educate the community about the principles and practices of token engineering. By building a knowledgeable and skilled community, these programs have been instrumental in advancing the field and ensuring the successful implementation of trustworthy tokenized systems within the Superchain.

2. Libraries of Knowledge: (aimed at developers, researchers, and knowledge curators)

In 2025, the establishment of comprehensive libraries of knowledge became a cornerstone for the Superchain's success. These libraries included collections or repositories of protocols, models, primitives, and mechanisms that contributed to the shared knowledge base of token engineering. By providing accessible and well-documented resources, these libraries have enabled developers and researchers to build on existing knowledge, fostering innovation and ensuring the consistent quality of tokenized systems.

In 2025, the introduction of sandboxes of experimentation revolutionized the way token engineering principles were explored and tested. These platforms facilitated the exploration and experimentation with models, primitives, and mechanisms in a low-cost, low-risk environment. By providing a space for safe experimentation, these sandboxes have allowed innovators to refine their ideas and approaches, leading to the development of robust and trustworthy tokenized systems within the Superchain.
